The White Tower and part of the city beach

Thessaloniki is one of the most beautiful cities in the area of Macedonia, and the Balkans in general. It is located on the center of Greece’s North and it is rich in history. A stunning city in the Heart of the Thermaikos bay, with great town planning, a unique historical identity, and a modern façade which gives the city a new identity worthy of its history. Thessaloniki is one of the most significant centers of the Balkans for centuries. Every summer thousands of visitors from Serbia, Bulgaria, Russia and the Central Europe visit Thessaloniki.

The place near the famous White Tower is ideal for a walk or a ride with the bike. The modern cycle path which crosses the beach of the city gives the residents of the city and its visitors the opportunity for a quick and easy means of transportation, in a journey through squares, parks and sports venues. The symbol of the city is the White Tower which was built on the 15th century by the Ottomans. Aristotelous square is the central square of the city, where everyone can find cafes and patisseries and enjoy their coffee along with the view of the port. In the center of the city everyone can find commercial traditional arcades, referring to the old times. Places like Athonos square and the Vardaris marketplace where someone can find outdoor shops. Thessaloniki, due to its eastern temperament is also known for its beautiful cuisine. Except of the hospitality that anyone can feel in Thessaloniki, they will also have the opportunity to visit neighborhoods of the city full of little restaurants with excellent food. The most famous is located in the place of Lagkadas.

  • Visit the White Tower at the center of Thessaloniki's beach and go to the last floor and enjoy the view of the city. When you leave you can go for a coffee or beer at the coffee places at the beach.
  • Go to Ladadika area for food and drinks. Taste the traditional and qualitative Greek food at affordable prices.
  • Take a walk at the City Hall and see the modern building where the municipal authority is staged.
  • Visit and admire the Saint Sofia's temple, and take pictures in front of this magnificent church, which was built on the 8th century A.D., as a replica to the original church of Instabul. Entrance is free.
  • Visit the Ethnological and Folklore Museum (Museum of the Macedonian Struggle) where you can see the traditional Greek clothes and learn the history of the Macedonian Struggle.

Beaches

Residents of Thessaloniki and lots of tourists are visiting the beaches of Halkidiki every summer. Take a swim at the clear waters of Arministis, Mamaros, Porto Karas and Elaionas. It is a 1-2 hour drive from the center of the city.

Local Flavors and Products

The restaurants and taverns of the city offer traditional food, such as, kebap, kontosouvli, gardoumpa, plates of meat, snacks, sea food and other Mediterranean recipes. Don't forget to try the famous eastern deserts of Thessaloniki after you eat, such as ekmek kataifi, kazan ntipi, seker pare, and the famous Panorama triangles.
